Educational Assessments

Helping families understand how a child learns - and how best to support them

At Be Kind Psychology, we offer comprehensive psychoeducational assessments for children and adolescents who may be experiencing learning challenges, uneven academic progress, or underachievement despite effort. These assessments help to clarify a young person’s learning profile, cognitive strengths, and academic needs in a practical, compassionate, and neuroaffirmative way.

Our educational assessments evaluate for a range of learning differences, including:

  • Dyslexia (specific difficulties with reading and spelling)

  • Dyscalculia (persistent challenges with numeracy and number sense)

  • Broader learning differences impacting literacy, numeracy, or writing

πŸ“˜ Each psychoeducational assessment includes:

  • Review of parent background form and developmental history

  • Review of school reports and any relevant professional documentation

  • Direct 1:1 testing using gold-standard assessment tools:
▫️ WISC-V – Cognitive profile (e.g. verbal reasoning, processing speed, working memory)
▫️ WIAT-III – Academic achievement in reading, writing, and numeracy

  • Screening for factors that may affect learning, such as:
    ▫️ Attention and concentration
    ▫️ Anxiety or emotional regulation
▫️ Working memory or processing speed difficulties

  • A detailed written report outlining cognitive and academic findings

  • A feedback session to explain results and provide practical, tailored recommendations for home and school

βž• ADHD Add-On Option

If concerns exist around attention, focus, or impulsivity, a full ADHD assessment can be integrated into the psychoeducational process. This includes:

  • Extended clinical interview exploring developmental and behavioural history

  • Administration and analysis of Conners 4 rating scales (home and school)

  • Screening for co-occurring factors (e.g. anxiety, autism, trauma)

  • Integration of all findings into a combined diagnostic and learning profile report

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Who should consider a psychoeducational assessment?

This type of assessment may be beneficial when a child or teen:

  • Is struggling with literacy, numeracy, or written expression

  • Is not progressing as expected despite effort and school support

  • Shows signs of dyslexia, dyscalculia, or another specific learning difficulty (SLD)

  • Requires formal documentation for school accommodations or SEN support

  • Would benefit from understanding their own learning style and academic potential

Our assessments are strengths-based, child-centred, and designed to empower both families and educators with clear, practical guidance. We aim to support every young person to thrive β€” in their own way, and at their own pace.
