Respectful, neuro-affirmative adult autism assessments for adults in Ireland seeking clarity, understanding, and support

At Be Kind Psychology, we provide high-quality adult autism assessments for those who may be exploring a diagnosis later in life, often after years of masking, feeling misunderstood, or being misdiagnosed

Our approach is affirming, evidence-based and grounded in compassion.

Our adult autism assessments are tailored to the individual and can be completed in person or online, depending on preference and clinical suitability.

Each assessment includes:

  • Initial appointment to explore personal history, goals, and concerns

  • Structured diagnostic interview

  • Direct observation using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2), delivered in person or online

  • Completion and analysis of standardised self-report measures

  • Review of historical records (e.g., school reports, psychological or medical documentation)

  • Optional third-party input from a partner, parent, or person who has known the individual since childhood (if appropriate and available)

  • Comprehensive written report with diagnostic conclusions and tailored recommendations

  • Feedback session to explain findings, answer questions, and provide guidance on next steps

Who are these assessments for?

Adult autism assessments may be helpful for adults who:

  • Experience longstanding differences in social communication, sensory processing, or emotional regulation

  • Have been previously misdiagnosed or misunderstood

  • Identify with autism and are seeking formal recognition and support

  • Want to access workplace accommodations, therapy, or educational supports

  • Are exploring their neurodivergent identity and seeking greater self-understanding

Our assessments are neuroaffirmative, trauma-informed, and collaborative.

We respect each individual’s lived experience and provide clear, thoughtful feedback — whether or not a diagnosis is made. Our goal is to empower you with knowledge, language, and the next steps to move forward.

Adult Autism Assessment (Identification) Steps

  • Person typing on a laptop keyboard with a blurred background of a second monitor.

    Step One

Email our admin at info@bekindpsychology.ie or make contact through our contact page here.

  • Man in an office talking on the phone behind a computer monitor

    Step Two

Our admin team will contact you to arrange your assessment (identification).

As part of the adult autism assessment (identification), you will be asked to complete self-report questionnaires. These standardised tools explore areas such as social communication, sensory processing, routines, and identity. They provide valuable insight into your experiences and help guide the diagnostic process. All responses are treated confidentially and are considered alongside clinical interviews and observational assessments to build a full picture of your neurodevelopmental profile.

  • Dr Jill Pollard on a Zoom Call

    Step Three

As part of the adult autism assessment (identification), you will take part in a structured clinical interview with a psychologist online via a secure video call. This conversation explores your developmental history, sensory experiences, communication style, routines, relationships, and how you experience the world.

If possible, we may also invite a parent, partner, or someone who knows you well to provide additional background. However, the assessment can still proceed if this is not available.

The interview helps us build a full picture of your strengths, challenges, and neurodevelopmental profile. It can be conducted online via secure video call. All discussions are respectful, confidential, and neuroaffirmative — with the aim of understanding you, not pathologising you.

    Step Four

As part of the adult autism assessment (identification), we may include an adapted version of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). This is a structured, conversational assessment carried out via video call. It explores social communication, interaction, and patterns of behaviour in a natural, informal way. The online ADOS is conducted by a trained clinician and forms one part of the overall diagnostic process.
